McDonald’s Introduces New Self-Serve Kiosks to the Capital Region!
Don’t feel like waiting in line? You won’t have to anymore!
Today, a McDonald’s in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. will be giving customers the option of ordering their meals through a new self-serving kiosk. Located on Route 50, it is the first McDonald’s in the Capital Region to offer the new kiosk service. It seem as though kiosks are becoming a new way to cater to customers in fast food restaurants. Customers will have the option to choose whether they would like to wait in line or order their meals themselves.
Are kiosks the more preferable way to order food now? It just might be! Franchisee Joe Gialil, says that “people might feel rushed at the counter as other line up behind them” (Times Union). With the new kiosks, customers can take more time ordering what they want. While on the one hand we can look at this as an efficient way to better serve customers, some oppose the idea of kiosks saying that it may cause fast-food restaurants to hire fewer workers. Although this can potentially be the case, Gialil comments on the topic saying that that is not the purpose of the kiosks.
The kiosks currently offer English and Spanish language options and it works as ant other kiosk would. Customers will order what they want through the kiosk and then will have the option of paying with a card at the kiosk or paying in cash at the counter. Once their order has been placed, customers will pick up a number sign and punch in the number on the kiosk notifying the employees of their order. Once the order is done the employee will bring the food to the customer of the order number. Hopefully, they will continue installing kiosks at the rest of the McDonald’s in the Capital Region, so that we all can get the chance to test it out!
