Happy National PUPPY DAY !!
Founded in 2006 by Colleen Paige,Pet Lifestyle Expert, Animal Behaviorist and Author. This National day brings awareness to the need for care of and homes for pups as well as to educate people about the horrors of puppy all around the country.
The Humane Society of Utah, a no-kill shelter south of Salt Lake City in Murray, can hold up to 300 dogs. On an average day, about 50 or 60 will be adopted. In 2015, it managed to place more than 5,000.That said, there are always more: unwanted litters, strays, pickups from other shelters. Shuster notes that the society sees many pit bulls and herding dogs -- the former because of their reputation for violence (a myth, she adds), the latter because their energy can be overwhelming for some people.
1.6 million puppies are adopted each year in America. About 710,000 animals who enter shelters as strays are returned to their owners,of those, 620,000 are puppies
Here's a few shelters in the Capital Region where you can save a little friend of your own. Celebrate the magic and unconditional love that puppies bring to our lives.
