Living in downtown Saratoga, my daily commute to and from work requires me to drive past the entrance to Congress Park each day. On a weekly basis, some of the park’s residents, ducks, will dictate traffic by crossing the road. The thought of, “Where are they headed?” has never really crossed my mind as I’ve missed green light opportunities to let the little quackers cross the road. That question was answered last week when a flock of 50 ducks made their way into the CVS across the road from the park intersection.
Kanye appeared on Big Boy’s Neighborhood in Los Angeles yesterday morning. He talked about Kendrick Lamar joining his tour, a pact with Jay Z to only perform Watch the Throne songs together, the meaning of his Yeezus song, Blood on the Leaves, and his fear, or lack thereof, of death.
50 Cent’s legal troubles finally have an end result. Fif and his ex / baby’s mother were allegedly involved in an argument that got violent over the summer. According to reports, Curtis went on a rampage, breaking a chandelier, door, television and other property owned by Daphne Joy. He also is said to have kicked Joy. Due to his legal history, he was facing a max of five years in prison as well as $50,000 in fines.
The McDonalds “Mighty Wings” were a “Mighty Flop” for the fast food franchise, even though overall earnings were still up 5% this quarter. Now the chain will make another menu change next month to help increase sales. No, they won’t be testing a new menu item. They’ll be changing the once profitable Dollar Menu to “Dollar Menu and More.”
Rick Ross will be playing the role of “Santa Closs” (see what I did there?) this winter, gearing up to release his new album on December 17th. The Miami native swung by the Hot 97 studio earlier this week to talk about the album’s title and his next single.
Even though Lil Wayne has had his issues with the Miami-based basketball franchise, the Heat, it’s still one of the cities that he calls home. Now Weezy is looking to give back to the youth of the community in a big way by partnering with “The Motivational Edge.”
It was a slow week for hip hop on the charts, although some recent releases are still performing well. Pusha T’s "My Name Is My Name" released to a top-5 finish last week but still managed to push another 20,000 units. Drake remains as the only hip hop artist (errr, maybe I should say “R&B artist") in the top 5 with "Nothing Was The Same."
One of the most legendary hip hop groups of all time reached a milestone this year. Two thousand thirteen marked 20 years since Bone Thugs-n-Harmony first signed to Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records. Their breakthrough single, Thuggish Ruggish Bone, was released in late 1993.
It’s official. The new iPad has a refreshing new look and name to accompany it. The 20 percent thinner tablet is now called the “iPad Air." It will be easier than ever to take with you on-the-go, weighing just one pound (about a half pound lighter). Some other key features and details were also announced today, including:
At Hot 99.1 we hope everyone has a safe, enjoyable Halloween. We understand a lot of parents don’t feel comfortable taking your kids out in local neighborhoods. No worries, there are still plenty of fun Halloween activities around the Albany area for your kiddos. Check out some of these great events!
Former Murder Inc. rapper Ja Rule was released from a two-year prison sentence in May. While doing interviews around the country he hasn’t shied away from questions regarding prison life. He said that he watched a lot of Knicks games and made several friends while in the clink, and, apparently, he ate pretty well too.
Chinga Chang Records is a fairly new label, founded in 2003. Their founder and lead producer, Daniel Herman, has been working hard to make the group a household name. He made headlines earlier this summer when he offered professional whack-job, Amanda Bynes, a record deal. That move was a bit of a head scratcher but he’s since made up for it by penning a deal with Cassidy.
You have to have a good sense of humor to call yourself “Tity Boi” and take yourself seriously as a rapper. The artist, now known as 2 Chainz, showcased his comical side in a video where he responds to comments posted on the video for his single, Feds Watching.
Nicki Minaj’s new clothing line will help young ladies ball on a budget. Nicki appeared at a launch event on October 15th and said her line was inspired by high fashion, Chanel and Versace in particular. The affordable items range from accessories at $3.99 and $37.99 for jackets.
Native residents of the great city of Atlanta tend to have more humility than most when it comes to their home town. One rapper from Hotlanta, Young Dro, called it one of the most hated cities in the US, while also claiming his birth place is the “Mecca of music.”
Eminem has been looking more happy and healthy than we’ve seen him in quite some time. Shady did barely any promo work for his last three projects (two solo albums, one with Royce Da 5’9” as a part of Bad Meets Evil). A refreshed Em has been pushing his new album real heavy, though! The Marshall Mathers LP 2 drops on Nov. 5. In conjunction with the release, he’ll appear on SNL as the musical guest the weekend before.
Fireman Cory Kalanick became a viral sensation when his GoPro camera showcased his heroic effort to save a kitten. The video shows Kalanick walking around a home when he came across the lifeless body of a tiny kitten. An oxygen mask and a few splashes of water did the trick and a thankful owner now has their little friend back. City firefighters in Cohoes are now prepared for similar situations.
The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame has inducted numerous rappers and Hip Hop groups over the years, Public Enemy and Run-DMC to name a few. But one group, possibly the most influential hip hop ensemble of all time, has yet to be honored by the “Hall.” N.W.A. is seeking induction for the second year in a row.
If you’re lookin’ for someone to be mad at, you can thank our friend Miley Cyrus for the explosive “twerk” trend. The use of the word “twerk” in conversation is getting old, but as a man with eyes, I won’t get sick of watching twerk videos any time soon. The overwhelming amount of twerk videos on Vine and other social media outlets inspired me to come up with a game – Catch The Clap with Tanch.
Rihanna’s social media accounts have led to yet another arrest! I’m not sure how the writers and producers of Hangover 2 missed this gem, but apparently the good people of Thailand consider women pulling live animals out of her vajayjay entertainment.
It’s pretty evident that rapper Charron, in the words of Rich Homie Quan, feels some type of way about being left out of the cypher segments at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards. If you’ve never heard of Charron, you might be thinking he’s just another basement rapper feeling like he’s been slighted by mainstream Hip Hop. That’s not the case, however. A featured spot was guaranteed for the Canadian emcee after winning BET’s freestyle competition on 106 & Park.
