Even though Lil Wayne has had his issues with the Miami-based basketball franchise, the Heat, it’s still one of the cities that he calls home. Now Weezy is looking to give back to the youth of the community in a big way by partnering with “The Motivational Edge.”

The program, which assists the education at-risk students in the Miami / Dade County area, is seeking $200,000 in funding.

“I grew up in New Orleans, in a neighborhood called Hollygrove, where I didn’t have a lot. A lot of other people didn’t have a lot. But what I did have was education and music. I figured that if one wouldn’t get me out, the other one would. But then I finally learned I wouldn’t get out of anything without education,” said Weezy. “I personally donated to this cause and now we need your help.”

The statement was made in a video posted on Indiegogo. The vid also features the organization’s CEO who explains why they’re doing what they do. “I saw an extensive need and a dire need for more creative, more artistic, more expression-based programs for these inner city youth that they weren’t getting in the school system.”

They’ve raised just under $32,000 as of the time of this writing. If you’re looking to contribute to the cause, click here to make your donation. They’re looking to reach their $200,000 goal within the next 40 days.
