Van Driver Crashes Into Colonie School Causing Lockdown

A Latham man is being charged in a car accident that happened yesterday causing, St. Ambrose Church and School on Old Loudon Road to go into lockdown mode. Here is how it happened according to the Colonie Police Department.

Just after 2 p.m. police received several 911 calls about the white work-type van with a ladder on its roof. Callers said it also struck a parked delivery truck and a basketball hoop and that the school was going into lockdown as a precaution.

Luckily no one was injured in the accident. This still makes me wonder why the driver was charged with a crime if it was an accident? Do you think people are more protective of schools, with all of this terrorist activity and school shootings that have happened in the last couple of years? It seems like any time anything happens at a school they go on automatic lockdown mode and law enforcement gets called.
