Oh my goodness, sometimes don’t you just think I’m tired? It’s exhausting! Protesting, rioting, police brutality, looting, all during a pandemic is exhausting!

As I watch the news it doesn’t even seem real. It just doesn’t seem possible that this is where we are in 2020. When we shouted, “happy new year“, we could never imagine what 2020 was about to bring to us. Think back, Kobe died in January, serious concerns about COVID-19 in February, stay at home orders starting to become in effect in March, we were in the midst of a serious pandemic in April and May. Even then I couldn’t imagine what June would bring. The death of George Floyd at the end of May was horrific, but even at that point, I couldn’t imagine how things could get much worse. Yet we’ve seen 10 consecutive nights of protesting and rioting all over the country and all over the world. So yes it’s exhausting.

For one short moment, I allowed myself to think “I’m tired!”. But I am a man, a provider, a leader, and a dad so I can’t let myself become tired. You can’t allow yourself to become tired either. We don’t have time to be tired. Bills have to be paid, children have to be raised, jobs have to be done, and lessons have to be learned. Our community cannot afford for us to be tired because we have too much work to do. I won’t allow myself to become disheartened or pessimistic. I’m going to forge forward and do the work, the good work.

I want to give my listeners encouragement to do the good work too while we have the eyes of the world on us. This past week has been rough and put a lot of institutionalized racism on display. Don’t give up, don’t be discouraged, don’t be tired. We don’t have time to be tired. Take care of your family, take care of yourself, and take care of your community. November is coming and we have a responsibility to hold our leaders and politicians accountable. Vote! Vote! Vote! We don’t have time to be tired!
