Workers Have Until October 12th To Return To Work, Must Be Vaccinated

Governor Kathy Hochul has not been in office long, but when she was sworn in she vowed to make fighting COVID-19 one of her top priorities. The State has just announced that they will be giving New York State employees a little more time to return to the State office buildings. In addition, they will also give employees an extension to get themselves vaccinated.

According to NYTiersState employees have until October 12 to return to the office buildings for work. The State is also mandating that all state employees get vaccinated before that date.

October 12 is the deadline for most State employees. Employees who work in State healthcare facilities don’t have that much time. Those workers must receive their first shot before September 27. If an employee is not vaccinated, they must submit to weekly COVID19 tests.

Back in August, former Governor Andrew Cuomo said that all State employees had to be vaccinated by Labor Day. Labor Day has come and gone, so a new deadline has been set for October 12.

The governor’s press secretary, Hazel Crampton-Hayes made the announcement. She said, “We are updating guidance for state agencies to provide employees and the public with the information and resources to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 and ensure that government workplaces have flexibility as our workers safely return to in-person work.”

The Delta variant is causing numbers to spike again. It will be interesting to see how the return to the workplace plays out. It will also be interesting to see how many State employees get themselves vaccinated, or submit the weekly tests.
