Dennis Drue Pleads Guilty To 58 Counts In Crash That Killed 2 Shen Students

Dennis Drue pleaded guilty this morning to the 58 counts against him in Saratoga County Court in connection with the Northway crash that killed two Shen seniors last year.

Drue also waived his right to appeal with the plea deal.

Drue will be sentenced on Dec. 5 and is expected to serve five to 15 years in prison with three years use of an ignition interlock device after that.

The judge overseeing the plea is allowing Drue to remain a free man against the request of the DA who asked that he be remanded today. The Saratoga County DA also asked for more prison time, but the judge denied that request for the moment.

When Drue is sentenced it will be well over a year since the December 1, 2012 accident. Earlier this month, the judge said he would allow Drue's statements at the scene of the accident to stand in trial, which included, "Oh, I love my car, my poor car," when speaking with a trooper.

Drue claimed he hit black ice on the Northway and lost control of his car. Shenendehowa High School seniors Chris Stewart and Deanna Rivers were killed in the accident while Matt Hardy and Shaker High School student Baily Wind were greatly injured in the crash.

When he was arrested in January of this year, Drue commented that:

This is bulls***. Those kids slammed on their brakes. This is just an accident, nothing more. You just need somebody to parade around for their deaths.

Members of the families of the victims were in court Friday wearing green and white Shenendehowa football shirts to show support of the victims.
