Mayor of Charles V. Patricelli, along with City Council Members announced today that the Watervliet community swimming pool will be opening on Monday, June 28 at 12 p.m. for the 2021 summer season.

COVID-19 caused a lot of cancellations last year, including neighborhood swimming pools. The entire 2020 swimming season was canceled for public swimming pools in Watervliet. Mayor Patricelli says that City employees used that time to work on the Watervliet pool and made improvements throughout the fall of last year and the winter of this year.

Mayor Patricelli was happy to announce the pool’s opening. He said, “We made a commitment in the beginning of January that we were going to open the pool this year, with or without Covid restrictions. We wanted a sense of normalcy to return to our community and this is a big part of the summer atmosphere. I spent many summers swimming at this pool and it was hard for me to see it dormant last year.

The Watervliet pool will be opening on June 28 and will remain open through August 20. The pool is only open to residents of Watervliet and residents of Green Island. Admission to the pool is cheap. Tickets for admission will range from $3 - $5.

The pool will feature swimming for adults only two days a week, Monday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Normal swimming hours will be Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
