Trump Doesn’t Forgive Student Loans

Trump has never been a fan of the student loan forgiveness program. Even though 35% of Americans report having student loan debt, he doesn’t see it as a crisis and is not a fan of helping these individuals get out of debt.

According to Forbes, the president is looking to cut funding to the Department of Education in the sum of $5 billion dollars. Considering the 2020 election is right around the corner this may not be a good idea. For example, Senator Bernie Sanders, a candidate for the Democratic nomination in this year’s election feels the exact opposite. He has offered to cancel student loans. His plan is to forgive all student loans, including both federal and private.

Currently the price for an undergraduate 4 year degree from the University of Albany will cost around $40,944. In comparison, according to payscale.com, the average salary in Albany is $64,000.
