As far as I knew, when it comes to schools there were strict laws in regards to sex offenders and how close they were allowed to be. As of Thursday, those rules changed for certain situations.

On Thursday, rules in regards to when sex offender parolees are allowed to vote changed. Spectrum Local News is reporting that in New York State specifically, sex offender parolees are allowed to enter schools to vote but only between 7:00PM and 9:00PM.

Technically, as a parolee, they can't take away their right to vote and can't keep them from voting. Apparently, "The state said a law requiring parole officers and school districts to specifically approve sex offenders taking part in activities on school grounds has been on the books for nearly two decades" and it just recently passed with the primaries coming up later this week.

State Senator Rob Ortt, R-North Tonawanda seems to be the most vocal against this ruling and said that if there are any issues regarding this new change, it will be the Governor's responsibility and hopes to revisit it next session.
