I stumbled upon an article on the Times Union that stated that the U.S. News report of the Top Colleges in the Country had been released. The publication uses a few categories for their scoring criteria when considering the top schools.

I'll save you some of the leg work. The Capital Region's top four-year colleges are as follows:

  1. RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) came in at #5 in the state, but #49 Nationally overall
  2. University at Albany - SUNY - #16 in NYS, #140 Nationally overall
  3. The New School - #18 in NYS, #147 Nationally overall
  4. Union College - #27 in NYS, #39 in National Liberal Arts Colleges
  5. Skidmore College - #28 in NYS, #41 in National Liberal Arts Colleges
  6. Siena College - #33 in NYS, #135 in National Liberal Arts Colleges

Everyone else was outside the top 50 in-state. What do you think of the rankings? Fair? Foul? Surprised?
