Mary J. Blige's father was critically injured following a domestic dispute with an ex-girlfriend in Battle Creek, Mich., earlier today (Jan. 23).

The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that 63-year-old Thomas Blige was stabbed in the neck by a former girlfriend. He remained in critical condition as of this afternoon.

At approximately 6:58AM Thursday morning, Battle Creek police were called to the Arbors of Battle Creek apartment complex, where they found Thomas Blige inside with three stab wounds -- including one to his neck.

According to Detective Sgt. Jim Martens, the 50-year-old woman who stabbed the singer's father was found in her nearby apartment at the Arbors wearing blood-spattered clothing. The initial argument was a result of a confrontation between the two after Thomas Blige reportedly saw his ex-girlfriend deflating the tires on his SUV, police say.

The suspect, whose name has not been given, was taken into custody, treated for a cut, questioned by detectives and subsequently arrested. She is expected to be arraigned in Calhoun County District Court Friday (Jan. 24).

The knife allegedly used in the attack was located inside Thomas Blige's apartment, according to police.

Mr. Blige underwent surgery for his injuries at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. An update on his condition has not been released.

Martens revealed that this isn't the first time cops have been called to deal with complaints between Thomas Blige and his girlfriend. A total of seven domestic violence incidents involving the former couple have been handled by police since August 2013.

During a prior incident, the woman hit Thomas Blige with a glass candlestick. She was charged for aggravated domestic violence in October 2013, as a result. She was placed on six months probation after entering a no-contest plea to the charge on Jan. 10 and ordered to have “non-assaultive” contact with him.

A statement from Mary J. Blige has not been released yet regarding her father's current state. The songstress has had a rocky relationship with her dad, who taught her to sing, since she was a child. He apparently abandoned the 'No More Drama' creator, her sister LaTonya and their mother, Cora Blige, after he divorced her in 1980.
