Back in February, a man assaulted a Colonie Police Officer, now there is a manhunt for him since he failed to appear in court. In February of this year Colonie Police Traffic Safety Investigator, Brian Curran was assaulted by 43-year old Jerson D. Vargas.  

According to the Daily Gazette, On February 11, 2020, officers were called because Mr. Vargas was on a CDTA bus causing a disturbance and urinating while on the bus.  

When officers tried to remove Mr. Vargas from the bus he would not follow commands and was using profanity toward the officer.  He grabbed the officer and shoved him into a window.  

The officer was taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a concussion and confusion.

Mr. Vargas was taken from the bus, arrested, and charged with one count of Assault in the Second Degree which is a Felony offense.  He was released pending a sentencing hearing.

A hearing was set for Mr. Vargas on November 2, but he did not appear for court.  Several other subsequent dates were scheduled for a hearing and he still did not appear.  Now a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Officers have no idea where Mr. Vargas is right now, but his last known address was in Malta.

Colonie police are now searching for Mr. Vargas.  He is described as 5‘10“, 220 pounds, has brown hair, blue eyes and tattoos on his arms and neck.

Officers consider Mr. Vargas as being dangerous.  Officers caution citizens to call 911 if they spot him.  They caution against approaching him.
