Who knew fast food would have such long-reaching political entanglement? Chick-fil-A is hoping to open its restaurants and rest stops on the New York Thruway, but some lawmakers are saying not so fast.

Rest stops along the New York Freeway recently announced that they would be opening Chick-fil-A restaurants inside the rest stops. If the restaurants were to open in the rest stop facilities, they would bring a different variety of food with them. Many travelers do not know the political affiliations associated with Chick-fil-A, but New York lawmakers do.

Chick-fil-A has recently come under fire for their huge donations to the National Christian Charitable Foundation which has been known to speak out against same-sex marriages and they’ve also been called anti-LGBTQ.

In 2019 the company said that they would stop supporting the NCF, but they have been reportedly continuing their support for the organization. The company has deep Christian roots which requires them to close on Sundays.

In a statement to the USA Today Network, a Chick-fil-A representative said, “We want to be clear that Chick-fil-A does not have a political or social agenda, and we welcome everyone in our restaurants.”

Three New York lawmakers, who are openly gay, are publicly opposing Chick-fil-A opening in rest areas in New York. Assemblymembers Daniel O’Donnell, Deborah Gluck, and Harry Bronson, believe that Chick-fil-A should not be located in public rest areas because of their alleged anti-LGBTQ agenda.

According to Syracuse.com, construction of the restaurants are scheduled to begin soon, and it is not clear if final approval will be withheld. We will have to wait and see if Chick-fil-A can open restaurants in New York rest stops. We have seen people purchase flight tickets from Albany International, to enjoy the Chick-Fil-A inside of the airport.

Also, I know of several people who have traveled to New Jersey or Massachusetts just to buy Chick-Fil-A, so today's Hot Topic is do you want to see Chick-Fil-A inside or NY thruway rest stops? Vote Below
