Cuomo: Effective Labor Day All State Employees Must be Vaccinated
On Wednesday morning, Governor Cuomo issued a stern message to all state employees in New York: You Must Get Vaccinated.
Fearing what he calls "pandemonium and chaos," the Governor, according to CBS 6 News said in a Zoom press conference that the "state will require COVID-19 vaccines or mandatory COVID-19 testing for state employees starting on Labor Day."
He echoed those sentiments in a Tweet this morning as well, doubling down when he posted this:
It's been reported that nearly 75% of New Yorkers have been vaccinated, but the concern is that the new delta variant could run rampant throughout the state as a result of the 25% who have yet to - or refuse to - get the Covid-19 vaccine.
25% of New York's population equates to roughly 3.5 million people in the Empire State.
According to NBC New York, starting on Friday, there will be a $100 incentive for anyone who gets their first does of the vaccine down in NYC. There is no word on whether or not any of those cash incentives will follow Upstate for the throngs of state workers that live in our area.
All of this coming on the heels of news from earlier in the week, when a revised mask mandate by the CDC requires that that people wear masks "indoors in areas of high spread, even for vaccinated people."
The Governor said that he is doing a full review to determine if mask mandates, even for those who are vaccinated, will apply to the people of New York.
