On Friday a Colonie man pleaded guilty for his involvement in the death of his six-week-old son.

On December 3, 2019, 39-year old Anthony Ojeda was arrested and charged with the death of his six-week old infant son.

According to News 10, medics responding to the emergency call, the baby was extremely ill. The infant was lethargic, vomiting had discoloration to his body and his eyes were rolling back in his head. At that time, Mr. Ojeda admitted that his child had ingested methamphetamine.

The baby only lived six short weeks and then his life was over. During those six weeks, at least on two occasions, the child sustained serious injuries at the hands of his father. On October 29, 2019 imaging scans showed that the baby had fractured ribs. The father, Anthony Ojeda, reported that the baby was accidentally injured as he was trying to move the child from his infant car seat.

Today Mr. Anthony Ojeda appeared in District Court. Albany County District Attorney David Soares reported that Mr. Ojeda had pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He admitted that the baby ingested methamphetamine while he was caring for his child. Mr. Ojeda did not call for medical assistance for his child until it was too late. The baby would not survive his injuries. Eli Ojeda-Harmon was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The baby's mother was unable to care for the child, so his father had legal custody. This is a sad story about the death of a baby who never really had a chance at life.

Anthony Ojeda is scheduled to appear in court on March 16, 2020, he faces up to nine years in state prison. We will keep you posted on his sentencing.
