Chicago continues to be the center of ongoing gun violence as another up-and-coming rapper is shot and killed in the city. Young Pappy was gunned down while standing on a street corner last Friday (May 29).

According to DNAinfo Chicago, a gunman wearing a gray hoodie shot Pappy in the back with two bullets and then jumped in a black four-door car.

The 20-year-old rapper was rushed to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he died. Police believe that the shooting was gang-related.

Young Pappy, whose real name is Shaquon Thomas, released a new video, ironically called “Shooters,” a week prior to his death.

The Chi-City rhymer had been shot at before, according to authorities. In 2014, Pappy was the target of two separate shootings that left innocent bystanders killed. Recently, he had a run-in with police after SWAT was called to break up a rowdy mixtape release party. Pappy and 30 other people were charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

Young Pappy’s slaying adds to the astronomical amount of shootings that have occurred in Chicago during the month of May. DNAinfo Chicago reports that over 300 people were shot and 37 people were killed in shootings throughout the city last month.

It goes without saying, that we need to stop the violence and increase the peace, not only in Chicago, but in other urban cities across the nation.

We send our condolences to the family and friends of Young Pappy. May he rest in peace.
