The Notorious B.I.G. passed away 23 years ago today. I remember the exact moment when my mom broke the news.

Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G. was one of the biggest influences on '90s Hip Hop and really changed the way artists made music forever.

Notorious B.I.G. was instrumental in me learning how to DJ. One of the first pieces of vinyl I got was Notorious B.I.G.'s "One More Chance."

The news hit me hard being in the 9th grade at the time, Notorious B.I.G. was one of the first hip-hop icons that I liked that was murdered in my lifetime.

Tupac actually passed away on my birthday, but I wasn't really a fan. Notorious B.I.G. is who I related to a little more being that he was from the East Coast.

On March 9, 1997 I remember my Mom waking me up to the news of Biggie being shot the night before in Los Angeles. I immediately fired up the modem and logged onto AOL news to confirm the news of the rapper's demise.

On March 9th, 1997 we lost one of hip-hop's greatest! His lyrics and stories always stood above the rest and always hit hard. Even though some of his lyrics were a lot for a teenager at the time, listening back on some of the songs makes me wonder how my parents let me listen to this. Rest in peace Christopher "Notorious B.I.G" Wallace.

May he rest in peace. We'll always love you, Big Poppa. Where were you when you got news of Notorious B.I.G.'s murder?
