Wanna be ‘Up the Creek’? Sign up for Mechanicville’s Anything That Floats Race!
The White Water Derby has been a staple in the City of Mechanicville since I can remember. It has been off for a couple of years because of COVID-19 but it is back this year! Not only is it a canoe and kayak race, the "anything that floats" race is back this year too. Here's how you can enter. TODAY (MARCH 28TH) IS THE DEADLINE TO ENTER!
What is the Mechanicville's, White Water Derby?
The White Water Derby has been taking place in Mechanicville for as long as I can remember. We would always run alongside the Anthony Kill Creek and follow the canoers and kayakers as they navigated the rough and very cold waters trying to win the race. The race ends at Mechanicville City Hall where the Anthony Kill meets the Hudson River. But that race isn't the highlight of the day.
The Anything That Floats Race is the Highlight of the Day
Year after year, people come from all over the Capital Region to be part of this at the White Water Derby in Mechanicville. The "Anything That Floats" race is just that. You build something that hopefully floats down the Anthony Kill and into the Hudson. You are judged on creativity, durability, and if it stays afloat! You can win some great prizes too. It is returning this year and if you want to register and build a vessel that will float a quarter of a mile down the creek you can!
When is the Event and How do I Register?
The White Water Derby and the Anything That Floats will happen on Sunday, April 3rd. The Anything That Floats starts at 1 pm at 80 North Central Ave in Mechanicville and runs to the Mechanicville City Dock. To register, call Tammie Alikonis 518-664-8322 ext 1014 or email talikonis@mechanicvilleacsc.org.
