There is nothing like this time of year in the Capital Region. Section 2 basketball is front and center and when you cheer on your hometown team, the whole community becomes one. Nothing represents this more than my hometown of Mechanicville.

It had been three years since the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train rolled through the Capital Region. It made three stops; Mechanicville, Saratoga Springs, and Fort Edward. The first was Mechanicville on a rainy Sunday night. This is where I enjoyed the festive holiday train. They are traveling across the country to 106 stops. At each stop, they play live music and collect donations for the local food banks. Country Artist Lindsay Ell was the musical entertainment and she was awesome. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train also presented the Mechanicville Community Center with a check for $3500 to help restock the food bank. Even though the weather wasn't ideal, a couple of hundred families joined the fun.

Mechanicville is a special community. I know because I was born and raised there and have returned to raise my family in this amazing city. It is hard to explain to "outsiders" what a special place Mechanicville is. Yes, the boys' soccer team is having an amazing season. Yes, they have already gone farther than any other boys' soccer team in program history. But it is deeper than that. It's different.
One of the newest Stewart's Shops opened in Malta on Route 9 in Mechanicville. The old location was near the roundabouts but the place was small and not very convenient. This location is huge with a Sunoco gas station, plenty of seating inside, and food-to-go options including meatballs, macaroni and cheese, pizza, and more!

It was a busy schedule in Section II Friday night with 34 games on the schedule for boys basketball and another 29 match ups for the girls. A big shout out to everyone new that has included us in your score distributions this week. We greatly appreciate it.
