Veterans Begin Receiving COVID-19 Vaccinations
The rush is on to distribute a vaccine and vaccinate as many Americans as possible. The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine has been distributed to healthcare facilities in New York, and the vaccinations have begun.
According to News 10, Over the weekend the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Emergency Use Authorization for the Moderna vaccine was granted. Today, December 21, the Moderna vaccination is being administered at the Stratton Veterans Administration Medical Center. Medical personnel or not being required to take the vaccine yet, but that may be the case in the future.
Peter Potter, the Public Affairs Officer for the Stratton VA is eager to have the COVID-19 vaccinations begin. He said, “The Stratton VA is eager to offer the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to healthcare personnel and resident veterans at our Community Living Center. Receiving the vaccine is like having help delivered. As vaccine supplies increase, our ultimate goal is to offer COVID-19 vaccinations to all veterans and employees who want to be vaccinated.“
The administration at the Veteran Hospital hopes to move on to vaccinate more employees and more veterans at the facility. They said that there is no need to go to the facility, or to sign up for vaccinations, they will reach out to veterans as they are able to be vaccinated.
Employees and veterans are reminded to still continue wearing their masks, even after they receive the vaccine. We don’t know yet when we’ll be able to ditch the masks, but authorities say that as more and more Americans are vaccinated, we will be closer to being mask free!
Until that time we must continue to wash our hands, maintain our social distance, and wear our masks.
