UAlbany’s SEFCU Arena Getting $12 mil Makeover-Take a Look!
The University at Albany is getting a twelve million dollar renovation to SEFCU Arena and the physical education gym. There will be some major upgrades and new amenities for both the fans and the athletes.
What is Planned for the New Arena & Gym?
The one major change will be the new layout of the basketball court inside the SEFCU Arena. The original layout is north to south. The new layout will be east to west. According to Ualbanysports.com, this will allow fans to be immersed in the experience.
There are many guest amenities planned throughout the new arena. They include, premium seating, upgraded chairs with spacious chair-back seating, improved sight lines, new and enhanced ADA seating throughout the arena, and new hospitality areas.
There Will Be Club Seating
The new arena will have an area for Club seating in the northern corners of the concourse and there will be new VIP seating in the top rows. The capacity of the arena will be three thousand eight hundred fans for basketball games.
The Bleachers Are Retractable
There will be brand new bleachers throughout the arena. Just the top rows will be permanent with the others being retractable. This allows more open space to accommodate three practice basketball courts.
Locker Rooms
New locker rooms will be built under the north side of the permanent bleachers. They will be state-of-the-art with amenities for student-athletes and coaches. There will also be a lounge area, meeting room, and a full kitchenette.
A New PE Gym is Being Upgraded
The new gym located in the Physical Education Building will serve as the home for UAlbany volleyball and other sports that need practice space. There will be two full basketball courts, a training space for both men's and women's basketball teams, and recreation on campus.
When Will The Project Be Completed?
They are scheduled to break ground in August and finish by November of 2023. The project is estimated to cost twelve million dollars with eight and a half million already pledged through private funding.
