According to the Colonie Police Department, an online escort scam led to a robbery and two arrests.

Officers with the Colonie Police Department arrested two individuals who were involved in robbing a man who responded to an online escort scam.

According to News 10, On Monday, January 10, an unnamed man responded to the website SkipTheGames in an attempt to obtain “escort” services.  The man met 20-year old Ava Maddalla of Scotia at the Hampton Inn & Suites, located at 45 British American Boulevard.

The meeting took place around 10:30 p.m. and it didn’t last very long.  After the man received the woman’s services he got an unexpected “treat”.  A man burst out of the bathroom and attacked him!

Police say that 25-year old Khalil Hankins of Schenectady joined Ms. Maddalla in attacking the man.  Before the suspects fled the scene, they took the man’s car keys, cash and debit cards.  The suspects then took the man’s car which was recovered at a nearby hotel on Tuesday.

It didn’t take long for the police to arrest the suspects.  Ava Maddalla was arrested on Tuesday and she was charged with second-degree Robbery, second-degree Grand Larceny, fourth-degree Larceny, third-degree Assault and second-degree Unlawful Imprisonment.

Khalil Hankins was arrested on Thursday.  He was charged with second-degree Robbery, second-degree Larceny, fourth-degree Larceny, third-degree Assault, and second-degree Unlawful Imprisonment.

Police believe that the pair may be responsible for other robberies in the area.  A similar incident took place a couple of years ago in Utica where an Albany Police Officer killed the potential robber. As always, people need to be careful when responding to online advertisements.  You never know who’s really talking to you through a computer screen!
