Two fires that were set on Sunday in Troy leave a Cohoes man facing arson charges.

Around 8:30 on Sunday morning two arson fires were discovered in the vicinity of an alley behind Tyler Street and 2nd Street in Troy.  The fires caused minimal damage because they were discovered early and they were distinguished quickly.

According to News 10, A passerby saw the fires and they stopped to assist in putting the fires out.  The police officers say that they are very thankful for the help that the passerby rendered to them.

Members of the Troy Police Department report they have arrested 29-year old Shaquan Small of Cohoes.  Allegedly Mr. Smalls was captured on video surveillance setting the fires.

The Patrol Division met in the area where the fires were set and quickly captured Mr. Small nearby.  Mr. Small was interviewed by the police and he was promptly arrested and was charged with two counts of third-degree Arson.

Mr. Small was released after he was given an appearance ticket.  He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in the City of Troy Court.

The Troy Police Department has not released any information regarding Mr. Small’s motive for starting the fires.  He obviously did not know that he was being recorded on surveillance video while he set the fires in the alley.  The recordings give the police some very incriminating evidence.

With cameras everywhere, it's not a good idea to commit random menacing crimes like this. I didn't take the Troy Police very long to catch up with the suspect. The Troy Police Department is asking anyone who has pertinent information regarding this incident to come forward and call Detective/Sergeant Steven Seney at (518) 270-4447 or Detective/Sergeant Martin Furciniti at (518) 270-4529
