A family of three has been arrested in connection with the May 30 protesting and rioting in Albany.

Troy resident 38-year-old Dwight Parker was arrested in Troy on Thursday morning for allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at police officers. According to News10, officers from the Troy Police Department worked together with the Albany Police Department’s Detectives Criminal Investigation Unit for over a month to identify Parker as the individual responsible for throwing a Molotov cocktail.

Peaceful protests were occurring all over the country after the death of George Floyd and some became violent. This particular incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. on May 30, when a Molotov cocktail was thrown at officers who were on horseback. The lighted device exploded directly in front of the officers who were on horseback.

Dwight Parker was charged with four counts of attempted assault in the first degree, four counts of attempted aggravated assault on a police officer, four counts of attempting to injure a police animal, and one count of reckless endangerment in the first degree. Parker was arraigned in Albany County Criminal Court yesterday and his bail was set at $40,000.

Two of Dwight Parker’s family members were also arrested in connection with the May 30 incident. His wife, 37-year old Sharlene Allen, and his 18-year-old daughter Amari Allen were also arrested. They were both charged with one count of inciting a riot in the first degree.

We have seen countless videos recently that show us that brutality is a horrible reality in this country. We must all show respect for one another, and that includes the police. Police officers must conduct themselves in a lawful manner just like the rest of us. Looting and rioting will never solve the problem, but we must continue to hold police officers accountable for their behavior.

I wonder how the police were able to identify the man? I'm not sure how three people can get charged for throwing an item, the additional charges on the man's wife and daughter seem a little questionable, and will probably be used in order to get the man to plead guilty. On another note, you can hardly tell the difference in age between the 38-year-old mother and 18-year-old daughter.
