If you wait until the last minute to go Thanksgiving Dinner shopping you may want to wait until the absolute last minute because you'll actually miss the worst time to go food shopping.

The worst day for grocery shopping is Tuesday, before Thanksgiving. This makes sense because everyone thinks the stores will be busy on Wednesday.

Everyone tries to beat the rush and goes shopping on Tuesday between 3p and 9p. Stores restock on Tuesday night as well so the shelves will actually be stocked after Thanksgiving.

According to “Grocery: The Buying and Selling of Food in America” by Michael Ruhlman — a close personal friend of recently deceased chef and TV star Anthony Bourdain — the absolute worst day to go to the supermarket for all the ingredients to your Thanksgiving sides and turkey is the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
