State Worker Fakes 81 Days Of Sick Leave Faces Felony
A State worker at the capitol building in Albany is facing felony charges and may end up in prison all while trying to take a little time off. Well, a lot of time off..... most of the Summer and December. Jacob R Weaver of Schenectady is facing felony grand larceny charges. He is accused of forging doctor's notes to take off 81 days during 2019. Investigators are saying he earned 11,867 in salary on those days.
Jacob allegedly forged doctor's notes to excuse him from work for 75 days and used 6 days of paid leave that he had earned. He was arraigned in court on Tuesday where he is charged with third-degree grand larceny, 13 counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, and 13 counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing. The sum of these 27 felonies potentially amounts to a 150-year prison sentence.
What was Jacob thinking? That is a lot of time off to fake an illness. I’m sure he gets his insurance coverage through his state job, did he not think they would investigate what would make him have that much time off of work? They became concerned when some of the medical documentation looked sketchy and also he was probably raising everyone's insurance premium, state-wide. I’m all for taking a “mental health” day or two but 81 sounds excessive.
