Should Albany Police Chief Hawkins Leave?
Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins has been working hard to curb the violence in the City of Albany. Although we know that violent crime is up, Chief Hawkins' hard work and dedication to the city has not gone unnoticed. The City of Akron, Ohio has its eyes on Chief Hawkins as they look for their own new Police Chief.
In September of 2018 Chief Hawkins came to Albany after a run as Police Chief in Southfield, Michigan. Since that time Chief Hawkins has been working hard to curb violence in Albany.
The City of Akron, Ohio is looking for a new Chief and they recently indicated in a press release that Chief Hawkins is considered one of the finalists and he will be part of a virtual community Town Hall on June 17.
Chief Hawkins is saying not so fast. He has said that he has not been offered a position with any other law enforcement agency. He said that he will continue to devote all of his energy to the City of Albany.
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan is not surprised that Chief Hawkins is being considered for a position with another law enforcement agency. In a statement, she said, “It’s not surprising to me that a member of my leadership team is being sought out by another agency. I have the best team in the business and they receive job inquiries and offers all the time.”
Chief Hawkins has been working hard for our city, but he cannot do it alone. It is up to each of us to work towards making our community a safer place for everyone.
