It's time to stand up for one of the Capital Region's own.

Ya know, it grinds my gears a little bit when out of towners are so quick to judge our local cities as the worst in anything. Looking at various city statistics from a distance with no local frame of reference is no way to rate how good or bad a place is to live.

Schenectady Named One of 20 Worst New York Places To Live

So that is why we are standing up for Schenectady after Money Inc. ranked the Electric City the 11th worst place to live in the Empire State. Yes, just like ANY city, Schenectady can be a little rough around the edges and that is mostly what this ranking was based on. But you know what's funny? Even the article points out how "...Schenectady has a great nightlife, the community is diverse, and there is a good choice of leisure activities to enjoy."

What they do not see in these rankings is Schenectady is a city on the rise. All the redevelopment downtown and folks moving in to settle into a city lifestyle has been amazing to see the last few years, not to mention the city is a great destination for shows, great restaurants, and so much more.
