Almost a year ago, on September 18, 2019, Budhnarain Karar strangled his live-in girlfriend, Marian Singh Loftis to death. Today Kadar pleaded guilty to murder.

According to WNYT, On September 18, 2019 Marian Singh Loftis’ 14-year-old daughter discovered her lifeless body in an upstairs apartment at 856 Maplewood Ave. in Schenectady.  Police believe that she was murdered around 1:30 a.m., but police were not called for more than 20 hours.

Members of the Schenectady Police Department had recordings of Kadar admitting to the murder on phone calls. They were able to track the defendant's movements through cell phone technology and EZ pass records as he traveled from Schenectady to Pennsylvania.  He was apprehended on Interstate 890.

Today, 42-year-old Budhnarain Kadar stood before Judge Logan in Schenectady County District Court and pleaded guilty to one count of Murder in the Second Degree and one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence.

Kadar struck a plea deal with prosecutors and could receive a sentence of 19 years to life for the murder charge, and 1/3 to 4 years for the tampering charges.

Judge Hogan will require the defendant to pay $11,000 in restitution for Ms. Singh-Loftis’ funeral and he will also issue a full order of protection for the victim's 14-year-old daughter.

Kadar is being held at the Schenectady County Jail without bail awaiting sentence.
