Over 8k Vaccinated New Yorkers Tested Positive For COVID-19

They are called “breakthrough cases“ when vaccinated people test positive for COVID-19. Millions of New Yorkers have been vaccinated against the virus, but more than 8000 vaccinated people have tested positive.

According to Spectrum News, At least 8,700 vaccinated people in New York have tested positive for COVID-19. Health officials consider this a “tiny fraction“ of the more than 11 million vaccinated New Yorkers.

When the vaccine was first given emergency use authorization in the United States, health officials were clear that the vaccine was not 100% effective in the prevention of infection. Health officials claimed that the vaccine prevented serious illness or death in more than than 99% of the vaccinated population, and the data is proving that claim to be true.

On June 25 New York saw its lowest daily positivity numbers with only 306 people testing positive. Since that time, the positivity rate has been steadily increasing and now the state is seeing more than 1,000 people testing positive for the virus daily.

The delta variant it’s now spreading in the community at an alarming rate. This variant is considered more contagious and more deadly than the original form of COVID-19.

Health officials are pleading with people to get vaccinated to prevent further spread of the virus. They say that almost 100% of all COVID-19 deaths are among those who are not vaccinated.

If cases continue to increase, it looks like we are heading back to wearing our masks and perhaps having restrictions imposed once again.
