Truly crazy times we are living in, I saw this story about a couple who has ties to the Capital Region murdered while in the privacy of their own home. Even during a pandemic people still seem to find a way to hurt and kill one another. According to People, Phillip Moreno, 45, didn’t just break into a home with the occupants inside; he killed three people and seriously injured another in a very violent home invasion. Moreno has been charged with allegedly murdering three people.

It was shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday, May 11 when Moreno alleged broken into a home on Staten Island and killed a couple and their unborn child. The victims, Ana Desousa and Alafia Rodriguez, were expecting their second child. Sadly, they were both murdered that day, along with their unborn child. Their oldest child is almost two years old and was uninjured.

Another gunshot victim, a 43-year-old unidentified woman, was shot in the torso and is currently hospitalized and listed in stable condition.

According to New York City Police, Phillip Moreno was arrested and charged with three counts of murder, including the victim’s unborn child. In addition, he was charged with two counts of criminal use of a firearm, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of criminal possession of a firearm, single counts of reckless endangerment, an act in a manner injurious to a child, and assault.

This is not the first time Moreno has been charged with murder. He served a 14 year prison sentence for the 1992 murder of Theodis Watson. It seems Moreno was familiar with the area because the 1992 murder occurred in the same neighborhood where Monday’s triple shooting occurred.

This is truly a tragedy my prayers and thoughts go out to their family. Moreno has not entered a plea yet and he still remains in police custody.
