Latham Teacher Arrested For Child Porn & Weapons

Parents may have all sorts of anxiety about sending their children off to school. Fear of an adult taking advantage of them sexually is unthinkable, especially if the adult is their teacher. It appears that parents in Colonie have every reason to be concerned about their children with one of their teachers.

According to News10, Social Studies teacher at Warren Street Academy, 26-year old Sean M. Miller of Latham was arrested on Thursday by the Colonie Police Department. Miller is accused of possessing and promoting images of child sexual abuse and for having an illegal assault weapon.

The New York State Police were notified by the Internet Crimes Against
Children Task Force that someone had allegedly transmitted images of a child sexual act from a residence on Coventry Court in Lantham.

New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit and the Colonie Police Department executed a search warrant on Miller’s home on Thursday. Once inside the home, officers were able to recover illegal child pornography, as well as an illegal assault weapon.

Once inside Miller’s home, officers were able to seize Mr. Miller‘s computer, as well as the illegal gun that they discovered in his home. Miller‘s computer was sent away for a forensics examination to search for additional images or videos. Because of Mr. Miller‘s profession, investigators are concerned that there may be more victims.

Miller was charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child, possessing a sexual performance by a child, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. According to New York sentencing guidelines, Mr. Miller could possibly be sentenced to 18 years if he is convicted.

Any type of abuse of a child is wrong, but to sexually exploit or abuse a child is absolutely despicable. I know that Miller is innocent until he is proven guilty, but if he is found guilty, I hope that he is punished to the fullest extent of the law. We must keep our children safe!
