Fans are getting a sneak peek at what it takes for Janelle Monae and her Wondaland crew to create magic onstage during The Eephus Tour presented by Toyota.

"It's a group effort. We're a team. We're a family. And we go with the best idea. It's not me dictating anything or Jidenna or any of the artists saying this is what we all are gonna do. We all are gonna go with what feels best for the core values of Eephus and Wondaland," Monae shares.

"It's a very democratic process," adds Jidenna before shouting out the crew that helps the tour run smoothly. "It's not just the artists. It's the band, it's the crew, it's management. There's a lot of people behind the scene making what you see on the screen wonderful."

The seamless appearance during The Eephus Tour, which hit cities like Washington, D.C., New York and Atlanta this summer, comes with much practice though since the team, comprised of Monae, Jidenna, St. Beauty, Roman GianArthur and Deep Cotton, had to communicate properly with each other well before they began performing together.

"When somebody has an idea we want to listen to it," explains Nate “Rocket” Wonder, one-half of Deep Cotton. "We do know how to communicate well with each other."

Even if set lists need to change they got it. But their solid system doesn't come without a few bumps in the road. "Our first set list. We hadn't really communicated," Monae admits. "And as a result it, you know, it took a lot of trial and error. But luckily, we got it all out in rehearsal and we went with what we felt was most strong."
