2 Capital Region Residents Win Massive New York Lottery Jackpots

Two Capital Region men are celebrating life-changing lottery wins, with one taking home more than $11 million and the other collecting nearly $4.5 million.

Albany resident Edward Stack won the top prize in the New York Lottery’s Millionaire for Life game after matching all six numbers in the May 21st drawing. The ticket was the first New York top-prize win of Millionaire for Life, New York Lottery’s newest multi-state draw game.

What Did He Decide To Do?

Stack had the choice of receiving $1 million a year for life, guaranteed for at least 20 years, or taking a one-time payment of $18 million. He chose the lump sum and received $11,718,001 after taxes and other withholdings.

According to the New York Lottery, he said winning felt great and plans to invest the money. His advice for anyone hoping to become the next lottery millionaire is simple: “Just play.”

The winning numbers were 03, 15, 16, 24, 28 and Millionaire Ball 04. Stack purchased the lucky ticket at the Price Chopper on Main Street in Richfield Springs.

Meanwhile, a Rensselaer man also scored a massive lottery win.

Daniel Russell claimed the $10 million top prize on the New York Lottery’s 300X The Money scratch-off game.

Russell decided to take his winnings as a single lump sum payment. After required taxes and withholdings, his payout totaled $4,470,118.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Cumberland Farms on North Greenbush Road in Rensselaer.
