In Response To The Heatwave Albany Extends Splash Pad Hours

You don’t even have to go outside to see that we are in the middle of a heatwave in the Capital Region. It is so hot outside that city officials are giving us ways to keep ourselves safe in this unbearable heat.

According to AlbanyNY.Gov, today Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said that she is doing her part in keeping residents safe in Albany. Mayor Sheehan announced that the city's spray pads will remain open a little later to keep users cool.

Because of the unbearable heat the city's spray pads, which usually close at 6:00 p.m., will remain open until 8 p.m. tonight, tomorrow night, and Friday night.

There are several spray pads at the following locations:

Upper Lincoln Park (Morton and Delaware Avenues)
Westland Hills Park (Colvin Avenue)
Swinburne Park (Clinton Avenue & Manning Boulevard)
Sheridan Hollow Park (Sheridan Avenue & Dove Street)
Rosemont Park (92 Rosemont Street)
Ridgefield Park (316 Partridge Street)
North Swan Street Park (North Swan Street)
Krank Park (65 First Avenue)
Hackett Park (North First Street)
Colonie Street Park (Green area near Livingston Avenue)
Black Lives Matter Park (484 Livingston Avenue)

There are also two city pools that are open until 7 p.m each night. The Lincoln Park Pool is on Lincoln Road and the other is the Mater Christi Pool located at 1134 New Scotland Road. Just remember that each pole has limited capacity.

Mayor Sheehan also talked about ways that we can beat the heat and stay cool. She says that we should keep ourselves hydrated, check in on our elderly family members and friends, and she reminded us that it is important to know the signs of heat-related illnesses.
