What is there that ‘Dris can’t do?

Actor/DJ (TBD, lol) Idris Elba, known for playing roles such as Stringer Bell in the critically acclaimed HBO show “The Wire” and Nelson Mandela in “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”, can now add another title to his name: the fastest man to drive the "Flying Mile" in the United Kingdom in 88 years.

To do the deed, Elba was driving a Bentley Continental GT Speed on Pendine Sands in southern Wales. Over the full “Flying Mile”, Elba averaged 180.4 miles per hour, hitting a top speed of 186.4 miles.

The car itself is out of this world. According to Bentley, the car itself was not altered in any way and was a stock vehicle. The Continental GT speed has a 6-liter, 626 horsepower, twin-turbo W12 engine, and can go zero to 60 in four seconds and has a top speed of 206 mph.

The record run was done for a new Discovery Channel series, Idris Elba: No Limits, which will air in July 2015.

Oh, and the last guy to hold the record? Motor racing journalist Sir Malcolm Campbell did it in 1927in a specially built Napier-Campbell Blue Bird race car, which’s top speed ended up being 174.2 miles.
