Father And Son Team Arrested For Assault With Metal Pipe
Imagine sitting in your car and someone starts to attack your car with a baseball bat. That’s just what happened to an unnamed man on Erwin Drive in Berne.
Members of the Albany County’s Sheriff’s Office arrested a father and son duo on Monday around 7:30 p.m. on Erwin Drive after they allegedly attacked an occupied vehicle with a metal pipe and a baseball bat.
According to News 10, the incident began as a dispute between an unnamed man and one of the suspects near Thacher Park.
The police investigation revealed that 19-year old Declan P. Jeffers was involved in an argument with another driver near Thacher Park. The other driver drove away from the park to Erwin Drive. Declan Jeffers followed the man and his father, 59-year old Daniel J. Jeffers also approached the vehicle. Declan Jeffers hit the unnamed man’s car with a metal pipe, and his father hit it with a baseball bat.
The unnamed man called 911 and drove himself to the Albany Medical Center for evaluation. Sheriff’s officers were unaware of any injuries the unnamed man may have suffered, but they definitely saw his smashed windshield.
Declan Jeffers was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief. His father, Daniel Jeffers, was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, second-degree attempted assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Both men could receive a maximum sentence of one year if they are convicted of criminal mischief. Daniel Jeffers could receive an additional five years for conviction of second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
We are definitely living in a stressful environment, that could lead to road rage violence. We all need to think before we even get ourselves involved in an argument. Is it really worth it?
