Drake Becomes First Artist to Reach 50 Billion Streams Across All Platforms
Drake makes history yet again. It was revealed today (Aug. 8) that the Toronto rapper has become the first artist ever to reach 50 billion streams across all platforms.
It's no question that the ability to stream songs has changed how everyone listens to music and how artists release it. Technology has made things a lot different from how they were 30 years ago, when you had to go to the store to purchase songs or albums. In this new climate, superstars can enjoy an even greater reach than ever imagined, considering their music can be listened to anywhere.
In this generation, hip-hop has Drake, arguably the biggest rap star in the world. His latest accomplishment is just another example of how far the kid from Canada has come.
Drake's fifth album Scorpion has been a monster on the charts since its release in July. In an impressive feat, it has been No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for five weeks in a row. In addition to that, Drake's inescapably huge single "In My Feelings" has been No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks straight. The infectious hook "Keke, do you love me?" is everywhere, including social media, thanks to the #InMyFeelings challenge. Drake has also held the top spot on the Hot 100 for 23 weeks total this year.
Speaking of "In My Feelings," the word is Drake cashed out on those grills he wore in the video. The pure platinum and 18k gold grills ran him about $14,000, but the video is a runaway hit, so it was all worth it.
