With cases and fear of the Novel Coronavirus, or COVID-19, growing each and every day it's nice to know that locally we are the the leading edge of testing and treatment right here in the Capital Region.

Albany has become a bit of a hub for testing for the virus and looking for a treatment in New York. According to The New York Post tests for the Coronavirus in the Empire State are now being conducted at the Wadsworth Lab in Albany. Previously test had to be sent to the CDC in Atlanta and the process was slowing diagnosis and treatment. Now, a patient being tested for the virus in New York can get the results in as little as 12 hours. That turnaround could even get quicker as more labs in Albany get ready to test for the virus. In the NY Post article Gov. Cuomo said that he's like to get to a goal of 1000 tests a day and maybe more.

Not only is Albany in the Coronavirus testing business, but also in the hunt for a treatment for the virus. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals in the Capital Region is working on a treatment for the Coronavirus. According to the article in The Times Union Regeneron hopes to have a treatment ready for testing this summer.

In the meantime, wash your hands and don't panic.
