Albany Woman Accused of Stealing 100k in Rent Money
Times are difficult right now, and many people are struggling to make ends meet. Some people are facing homelessness because they don’t have enough money to pay their rent. Sadly, an Albany woman took advantage of the current financial crises that many are experiencing, by stealing the rent money that she collected from them.
55 year old Wen M. Lu, of Albany, is accused of an awful crime. According to News10, Lu was arrested on Tuesday, for stealing rent money. She was responsible for collecting rent money for a Saratoga County business. According to charging documents, the New York State Police investigation determined that Lu collected more than $100,000 in rent money for a Saratoga County business.
Lu did not deposit the funds into the account of the business. Instead, she deposited the funds into a fraudulent account that she had previously opened for herself to try to hide her crime. Investigators determined that Lu used the money for her own personal expenses.
Wen M. Lu has been charged with second-degree grand larceny. Grand larceny is a felony offense and she could serve up to 15 years in prison if she is convicted of the crime. Stealing from others is always a heinous crime. It seems especially outrageous in this instance.
The suspect had to put a lot of thought and effort into carrying out her plot. She opened the bank account and then used the funds for personal use. She had to know homelessness is a real possibility for many Americans right now. To steal rent money at a time like this is really messed up. I hope that the people she took advantage of will not suffer because of her bad behavior.
