When officers responded to a disturbance at a home near the Harriman State Office Complex, on N. Manning Blvd., they never expected the horrendous sight that they discovered. There was a bloody mess that led to the arrest of a 27-year-old man from Albany.

According to Albany Police, It was around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday night when police officers responded to a call in the 100 block of N. Manning Boulevard. When the officers arrived at the location, they discovered 53-year-old Denise Castanon stabbed and bleeding from her injuries. Tragically, Ms. Castanon was stabbed multiple times in her torso by her own son, Christopher Castanon.

Responding medical personnel worked on Ms. Castanon at the scene, and then rushed her to the Albany Medical Center Hospital. Sadly, Ms. Castanon succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

With the assistance of SUNY Police, the Albany Police Department’s K9 Unit was able to locate Mr. Castanon in the vicinity of the event. Mr. Castanon was quickly taken into custody without any further incident.

Christopher Castanon and was charged with one count of second-degree murder and arraigned in the Albany Criminal Court.

It is unknown at this time what provoked the suspect to stab his mother, but officers say that the incident is still under investigation. They are asking anyone who has any further information contact Albany Police Detective Division.

I know that sometimes parents and their children disagree. Sometimes my own mother gets on my nerves, but I can’t imagine what she could do that would provoke me to stab her to death. Hopefully, there aren’t many children out there who would do this to their mothers.
