Yesterday we spoke about the death of a black man, Daniel Prude, while in police custody.  Mr. Prude’s death was ruled a homicide by the Coroner's Office, and members of Black Lives Matter showed up to attend a press conference yesterday.

Mayor Lovely Warren and Police Chief La‘Ron Secretary held a press conference yesterday about Mr. Prude’s death, but only members of the media were permitted entry into the conference.  To restrict entry into the building, officials placed barriers outside of the Public Safety Building.

Members of Black Lives Matter showed up in front of the Public Safety Building in downtown Rochester and tried to enter the press conference, as a result, some of the members were pepper-sprayed and arrested.

A total of nine members of Black Lives Matter were arrested including their organizers, Stanley Martin and Ashley Gantt.  The arrests were as follows:

As of Thursday morning, the Rochester Police Department has not announced whether any of the activists have been released from jail.  We will certainly have to keep an eye out on this story. We must continue to have our voices heard with non-violent protesting.
