6ix9ine’s “Fefe” Featuring Nicki Minaj and Murda Beatz Goes Platinum
Amid 6ix9ine's many beefs and legal battles, his song "Fefe" featuring Nicki Minaj and Murda Beatz has proven to be a bona fide hit. The Recording Industry Association of America certified the track platinum last Thursday (Aug. 15).
The song, released in the form of a colorful music video on July 22 and later added to Nicki's latest album Queen, nets Tekashi his second platinum plaque, following "Gummo," which picked up the honor in March. "Fefe" currently sits at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 after peaking at No. 3 upon its debut.
Both guests on the single have earned their fair share of RIAA awards, but it's Murda Beatz's first platinum song as a featured artist. Drake's "Nice For What," which Murda produced, went triple-platinum in June. Nicki, meanwhile, notched her 14th platinum-certified solo song with "Chun-Li" in July. She also currently has nine songs on the Billboard Hot 100, as a solo artist or featured guest.
Minaj has caught flack from fans and critics for appearing on "Fefe," in light of 6ix9ine's 2015 conviction for sexual misconduct involving a 13-year-old girl. Earlier this month, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office recommended he serve one to three years in prison and be forced to register as a sex offender for failing to meet the terms of his plea deal in that case.
In response to one editorial criticizing her collaboration, Nicki lashed back, accusing the writer on Twitter of being a "bully" and declaring the publication the "Dick Rider of the Year" on an episode of her Beats 1 radio show. She also has accused MTV of denying her request to perform "Fefe" with 6ix9ine during her 2018 Video Music Awards set, which still included the song.
