There’s a new number one album in the country this week, and it wasn’t French Montana’s long awaited debut project. The top spot belonged to the (frequently sampled) French group, Daft Punk. The album, Random Access Memories, sold nearly 340,000 copies in its first week.

French Montana’s Excuse My French debuted in the top 5 this week. Not bad, but not nearly as impressive as other recent debut albums from upstarts like Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill and 2 Chainz. The project features a ton of big names, but that wasn’t enough to wow critics. Most reviews acknowledged French’s ability to assemble club bangers, but the overall feeling is that the album lacked depth.

In other album news, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis had another big week, finishing in the top 20, while Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city is closing in on the ONE MILLION mark. To date, the project has sold just over 900,000 copies. The Jay-Z produced soundtrack for The Great Gatsby rounded out the top five this week, featuring songs from Jay-Z, Beyonce & Andre 3000, will.i.am, Fergie, Gotye, Sia, Jack White and Lana Del Ray to name a few.
