The political climate in this country has some people going crazy. Imagine risking jail time for a political candidate. That’s just what a 45-year-old woman from Schenectady did when she got herself arrested for stealing political signs from lawns in several areas.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, 45-year-old Deana Algarin is accused of using six children to steal political signs from lawns throughout Montgomery County.
Authorities advised that Ms. Algarin drove six children around to steal signs in several neighborhoods in Amsterdam.
When an officer with the New York State Police stopped Ms. Algarin on Highway 103 in Schenectady County, they found the stolen signs in her car.
Ms. Algarin has been charged with six counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Possession of Stolen Property, and Petit Larceny.
Elections are serious business in this country, and many people believe that our election process is at risk. If you had a chance to check out the presidential debate last night, you saw how different the two candidates are. Constant interruptions, and sometimes mistruths were plentiful. Both candidates appeared frustrated and sometimes resorted to name-calling. One thing that stood out for me was when Donald Trump refused to denounce racism and instead gave a shout out to a white supremacist group.
I don’t know whether Ms. Algarin stole signs from Democrats, Republicans, or someone else, but this should not be acceptable for anyone. I’m sure the children involved in the incident had no idea that they were being used as political pawns for this volatile election. I wonder how much she was paying?
