Police are investigating an incident in Watervliet where a Marine caused havoc on the Marine Arsenal grounds.

Officials with the Marine Arsenal in Watervliet report that yesterday, around 4:00 p.m., an Army employee at the site noticed that a Marine was at the location carrying a knife. This incident caused a shelter in place order of the facility.

Law enforcement officials say that the Marine was stationed at the Recruiting Site on the Arsenal grounds, but was are not permitted to carry any type of weapons on the grounds.

At some point during the incident, notification was made that an individual was barricaded at the facility.

Watervliet Arsenal Police and the Watervliet Police Department received assistance from surrounding law enforcement agencies including the Menands Police Department, the Cohoes Police Department, the Colonie Police Department, the Green Island Police Department and Saratoga County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Around 5:30 p.m. police searched all vehicles as they left the facility and the shelter in place order was lifted around 6:00 p.m.

Law enforcement officials are not releasing the identity of the Marine involved in this incident.  Somehow the Marine was able to leave the facility, but he was later arrested by officials with the New York State Police Department at his home in Menands.

Officials have not determined if or when charges will be filed against the Marine involved in this incident.  Fortunately no one was injured during the event, and officials say that residents in the surrounding area were never in any type of danger.  The incident is still under investigation.
