It is estimated that Walmart loses approximately $3 billion dollars due to theft each year. That's a whole lot of toilet paper and diapers that roll out the front door of the world's biggest retailer. Even though that is only 1% of annual sales it's still $3 billion dollars a year!

There are around 100 Walmart locations in New York State and today the focus is on the Glenmont location at 311 Route 9W. The reason is due to a recent theft  This person didn't take an impulse item and flee. This individual allegedly took something potentially dangerous if not deadly.

According to the Bethlehem Police Department, officers responded to a call from Walmart in Glenmont at approximately 1am on Tuesday May 10th. Employees at the store weren't reporting a crime that had happened earlier, this crime was in progress!

The suspect reportedly forced his way into Walmart through the Garden Center. This store location closes at 11pm so this is a couple of hours later. Once inside the store the individual used a fire extinguished to smash the glass of the gun case.

Bethlehem Police have stated that the suspect then fled the store, carrying 5 long guns, through the Sporting Goods emergency exit. Once outside the individual escaped into the woods near Bender Lane.

Bethlehem Police Officers, along with members of the Albany County Sheriff’s Department and New York State Police, searched the wooded area behind Walmart and were able to recover the stolen long guns, as well as property belonging to the suspect.
