USA Today Named This Upstate New York Resort One Of Nation’s Best
If you could go to a resort anywhere in America, where would you go? From beautiful Hawaii to the Rocky Mountains to sunny Miami, there are so many options offering incredible history, gorgeous scenery, or luxurious amenities.
Fortunately, in Upstate New York we have plenty of resorts with all three. Now USA Today and their readers have chosen an Adirondack mainstay as one of the top 10 destination resorts in the country as part of their yearly 10Best.
I Guess They Wanted More Of This
Each list of the 10Best started as a curated group of 20, chosen by USA Today experts with the finalists culled in half by an online reader vote. For their #3, they chose Bolton Landing, NY’s famed Sagamore Resort. The striking Queen Anne style resort is on its own private 70-acre island, purchased by four Philadelphia millionaires to buy Green Island for $30,000, which is in the neighborhood of $875,000 today.
A member of the Historic Hotels of America, The Sagamore was opened in July of 1883 as Lake George was becoming one of America’s most prominent vacation destinations for the extremely wealthy. Over the next several decades, resort amenities like the 18-hole golf course and horseback riding were added along with The Sagamore’s iconic wraparound porch.
With Views Like This, Who Needs Amenities?
Guests can also enjoy meals at the seven restaurants on the grounds, get pampered at the award-winning spa, or wander the beautifully manicured lawns and gardens by the lakeshore. Open year-round, The Sagamore even has indoor baseball diamond (kid-sized, but still.)
That first summer in 1883, rooms were $4 per night but these days main hotel rooms now run about $500-600. The only resorts to beat The Sagamore in the 10Best were the Acqualina Resort in Miami and Hidden Pond in Maine.
